Release Details
Alpenglow, a Solana consensus protocol, was released on Oct. 21, 2026. It went live on mainnet-beta the same day. Its genesis block formed at that moment. TowerBFT was retired during the switch. A migration feature gate activated the change at an epoch boundary.
Protocol Components
The protocol paired consensus research with erasure-coded data distribution. Votor serves as the voting component. Votor ran two voting modes. Those modes competed to finalize each block. Validator votes moved off chain. The votes traveled as direct BLS-signed messages between nodes.
Vote Handling
Vote signatures were aggregated into one compact certificate. This step left blockspace for users. Each node ran its own timers. Each node identified a silent leader on its own. Nodes voted to skip a silent leader. A skip certificate formed after that vote. The chain moved on once the certificate was ready.
Finality Outcome
A confirmed block was a finalized block. This setup gave deterministic finality. Past the migration boundary, blocks carried only votes. Those blocks could be rolled back with no loss of user transactions.
Migration Record
Validators signed a BLS vote for the genesis block. That action formed a genesis certificate. The certificate was written to an onchain account. It served as a record of the migration. The protocol was developed by Anza. This detail appears on the company's Alpenglow page.
